Who are ideal candidates for assisted hatching?

Assisted hatching is not recommended for all IVF patients. Some ideal candidates for assisted hatching include:
  • Age: Women over 37 years old
  • Previous IVF failure: Patients who have had a previous IVF failure
  • Embryos: Embryos with a thick, dark zona pellucida or other alterations
  • Development: Embryos with slow and fragmented development or division
  • Fertility issues: Women with other underlying fertility issues with a poor conception prognosis
  • FSH levels: Patients with elevated FSH levels during follicular phase
Assisted hatching is a micromanipulation technique that helps embryos hatch from the zona pellucida. It can involve using acid Tyrode’s solution, laser, or PZD.
