Fertility preservation is removing and freezing eggs, embryos, sperm, and tissues for future use. The most common and successful option for preserving a female’s fertility is embryo cryopreservation, also called embryo freezing. Other types of fertility preservation include:
- Oocyte cryopreservation, also called egg freezing
- Gonadal shielding
- Ovarian transposition
- Radiation shielding
Fertility preservation treatments fall into two categories:
- Removing and freezing eggs, embryos, sperm and tissues for future use.
- Minimizing the impact of cancer treatment on the reproductive tissues.
