TREATMENT OPTIONS FOR LOW TESTOSTERONE

Low testosterone can be treated, but the course of treatment will depend on the patient’s desire to protect their fertility. Sperm production will be decreased by almost all testosterone formulations.

  • TESTOSTERONE INJECTIONS: Regular (usually weekly) injections of testosterone can take the place of natural levels. However, since injections almost invariably reduce sperm production, they should be used with caution.
  • TRANSDERMAL (TOPICAL) TESTOSTERONE: This method includes applying patches or gels containing testosterone to the skin. Although it’s a non-invasive way to augment testosterone, it carries the same danger of sperm production suppression.
  • TESTOSTERONE NASAL GEL: Due to its extremely short half-life, this testosterone formulation is the only one that tends to preserve sperm production. Its requirement to be injected through each nostril two to three times each day is a drawback.
  • TESTOSTERONE PELLETS: These pellets, which are implanted under the skin and last for roughly four months, gradually release testosterone. They offer a consistent hormone delivery but have the same dangers of decreasing sperm production as injections and topical testosterone.
  • HUMAN CHORIONIC GONADOTROPIN (HCG) ANASTROZOLE (ARIMIDEX) AND CLOMIPHENE CITRATE (CLOMID): Compared to testosterone supplements, these drugs operate differently. They preserve or even enhance sperm production by encouraging the body to make more testosterone from the testes rather than supplementing it.
Low testosterone doesn’t have to be permanent. With proper treatment and lifestyle changes, you can overcome the symptoms associated with low testosterone.
Some natural ways to boost testosterone include:
  • Improving your diet
  • Mixing cardio with strength training
  • Getting plenty of sleep
  • Reducing stress
  • Addressing any underlying medical conditions
Testosterone replacement therapy can also come in the form of:
  • A skin patch that is applied once every 24 hours
  • A pill called undecanoate
