Is fertility acupuncture painful?

Acupuncture is usually not painful. The needles used in acupuncture are solid, not hollow like the needles used for vaccines. You may not even feel the needles.

Acupuncture can help with:

  • Balancing hormone levels
  • Regulating menstrual cycles
  • Promoting ovulation
Acupuncture needles are placed in different points depending on where you are in your menstrual cycle. The points can be on the lower abdomen, legs, feet, hands, and arms.

Acupuncture treatment is usually started at least two to three months before medical infertility treatment. Most clients start with a course of 6-10 treatments.

Research has not proven that acupuncture is beneficial to fertility. However, some research has shown that acupuncture in conjunction with other fertility treatments increases success rates by 50 percent.
