This hormone is produced in the placenta during early pregnancy. It can also be used during IVF. When you administer hCG as a trigger shot, it stimulates the eggs to mature because hCG is very similar to LH (luteinizing hormone) which causes ovulation. Your doctor may use hCG as the trigger during a long agonist, antagonist, or flare protocol.
