What are the types of fertility preservation?

Fertility preservation is removing and freezing eggs, embryos, sperm, and tissues for future use. The most common and successful option for preserving a female’s fertility is embryo cryopreservation, also called embryo freezing. Other types of fertility preservation include:

  • Oocyte cryopreservation, also called egg freezing
  • Gonadal shielding
  • Ovarian transposition
  • Radiation shielding

Fertility preservation treatments fall into two categories:

  • Removing and freezing eggs, embryos, sperm and tissues for future use.
  • Minimizing the impact of cancer treatment on the reproductive tissues.
