In IVF, egg donation occurs when one egg is retrieved from the body of a female and preserved in all of the appropriate conditions until being used. However, because egg donation is a costly operation, every aspect is considered before official donation.
Every couple hopes to have a child at some point in their lives. However, if the expecting mother has reproductive issues that preclude the retrieval of good quality and viable eggs for use in the IVF technique, an egg donor is required.
This occurs in the following situations:
- Female ovarian pathology;
- The existence of genetic disorders that can result in fetal birth abnormalities;
- age
